Deacon Dining hosted an ice cream social for Freedom School scholars. The CDF Freedom School is a free six-week, literacy-based summer program for elementary and middle school students (3rd-8th grade). Freedom School encourages a love of reading and learning by providing a culturally diverse curriculum.

It was hard to tell who was more excited about the meals, us or the campers. When the entire staff volunteers to serve them, you know you have some really special kids.  Hopefully, the impact we made on their day, was as big the one they made on ours.

Mark Block – Harvest Table Culinary Hospitality Services Director

This program is hosted yearly on Wake Forest’s Reynolda Campus by the Department of Education, in partnership with The Office of Civic & Community Engagement, Office of the President, and Office of the Provost. To learn more about this summer program check out WFU’s Office of Civic & Community Engagement blog.
