Hand painted canvas banner highlighting sustainability efforts by Hospitality & Auxiliary Services hanging on campus.

Hospitality & Auxiliary Services participated in Sustainability’s Annual Earth Month Banner Painting Event. This year the design was to be inspired by women who have shaped global environmental movements and we took inspiration from Brazilian environmentalist, Marina Silva.

Our challenge is to include sustainability in public policies and budgets. Citizens have to demand it of their government, company, academia-everyone. That’s when we’ll really see a transformation.

-Marina Silva during an interview for her presidential bid – 2014

We actively work to include positive efforts in sustainability across all our departments and remain committed to implementing these practices in our daily routines. Our banner highlights our composting efforts in Dining Services and Transportation & Parking’s EV Charging stations.

In addition, the Bookstore & Deacon Shop has joined the University in its mission of sustainability by offering a sustainable collection. This collection includes a mix of sustainable, recycled, reusable eco-friendly products including t-shirts made with U.S. cotton (responsibly produced fiber), upcycled textile waste, and recycled water bottles.

From composting at our dining halls to offering sustainable collections at our bookstore, the initiatives and new endeavors launched in recent years are helping streamline and improve our processes.
